There are days when you have the time to be in the kitchen to bake and create and then there are those days when you want something sweet but the thought of turning the oven on and taking the time to make a baked dessert just isn’t giving you a warm fuzzy feeling. Well I’ve got you Honey, this one’s for you. Apple Sundae Dessert is going to satisfy your sweet tooth with minimal time in the kitchen.
Apple Sundae Dessert has two elements to it. The first one is a homemade apple topping made with baking/cooking apples and the second? Store bought ice cream. The wonderful flavors of cinnamon and ginger with soft cooked apples paired with vanilla ice cream is wonderful. This delicious apple treat is going to give you the taste of Fall we love without a lot of work.
Can I Make Apple Sundae Dessert With Pears Instead Of Apples?
You can, just remember that this recipe is made with baking apples because we want the apple slices to be able to with stand the heat from cooking without turning to mush. If you want to make this recipe with pears, use a baking pear for the same reason, you want a pear that can withstand the heat without turning to mush. Bosc and Anjou Pears are baking pears and can be substituted for the apples . You could also use a combination of baking pears and baking apples for this recipe.
What Can I Do With Any Leftover Apple Filling From The Recipe?
Chances are if there are only two of you in the house, you may be wondering what to do with any leftover apple filling? Here are a couple delicious ways to use it.
- Stir the apple filling into cooked oatmeal
- Add a dollop of yogurt to it for a quick snack
- Use it as a topping for pancakes or waffles
- Serve it over a slice of thawed frozen store bought pound cake
- Use it to top a baked tube of Grands Cinnamon biscuits from your grocery store refrigerated section.
Apple Sundae Dessert Ingredients:
- 2 medium baking apples, peeled cored and sliced
- 1 /4 Teaspoon ground ginger
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- 3 Tablespoons packed brown sugar
- 1/3 cup apple juice
- 1/2 Teaspoon cornstarch
- vanilla ice cream
We start our Apple Sundae Desserts by placing the peeled sliced baking apples, butter and ground ginger into a large skillet over medium heat. Cook the apples about 3 minutes or until they are just tender.
Add the brown sugar to the pan and stir it into the hot apples.
Place the apple juice and cornstarch into a measuring cup or a small bowl (which ever you prefer) and mix them together. I like using a measuring cup because it has high sides and none of the liquid splashes out when I’m mixing or whisking the ingredients together.
Add the apple juice/cornstarch mixture to the pan. Cook and stir all the ingredients together until they are thick and bubbly. After the mixture is thick and bubbly, cook and stir an additional 2 minutes. Let the mixture cool slightly before making your Apple Sundae Desserts.
After the apples have cooled slightly place scoops of ice cream into dessert glasses or bowl. Top the ice cream with the apple mixture and sprinkle a little bit of cinnamon over top and enjoy!
Apple Sundae Dessert, a quick and easy taste of Fall you’re going to love!
