Bacon Wrapped Pretzel Rods
These appetizers always fly off the plate when I make them! Nobody can resist the delicious sweet and spicy flavor Bacon Wrapped Pretzel Rods have. Even the kids love them. My niece who was about 8 yrs old the first time she tasted them , asked me for the recipe!
I have made these with thin and thick cut bacon. If using thin cut bacon, it’s just a matter of wrapping the bacon slice around the pretzel rod and rolling in it the sugar/chili powder mix. Using thin cut bacon is definitely the best way to make these but…
Today all I had was thick cut bacon. I took the thick cut bacon and cut it down the center in half and then in half across the middle. I wrapped 2 short pieces of bacon around the pretzel rod so it was covered. If I hadn’t done this, the rods would have baked twice as long because the bacon was thick.
This is a fantastic appetizer for football season, what red blooded football fan wouldn’t love these! They’re also a travel friendly appetizer, great to bring along to tailgating parties. Bacon Wrapped Pretzel Rods, you’re going to love them. ENJOY
Bacon Wrapped Pretzel Rods
Ingredients
- One 12 oz bag Pretzel Rods
- 1 pound Thin Sliced Bacon you can also use thick cut
- 1 Cup of Brown Sugar
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pan used - cookie sheet
- Wrap the bacon around the pretzel Rods. In a shallow dish mix the sugar and chili powder together. Roll the bacon wrapped pretzels in the sugar /chili mixture.
- Place the bacon wrapped rods on a cookie sheet, bake 20 minutes or until bacon is crisp. Turning once during baking will insure that the sugar will caramelize on both sides of the bacon. Watch carefully so the sugar doesn't burn. You can also put these on a baking rack on top of a cookie sheet to bake. I preferred just the baking sheet so the bacon would get nice and caramelized . Also, you'll notice when you turn the rods that they will get flimsy, don't worry, they firm up when they cool down. When you take them from the oven lay them in a single row on a cooling rack to cool, not touching each other while they are cooling so they don't stick together.

How long can you keep the bacon pretzel rods before serving?–I would like
to take them to a fellowship–the food sets out 2 hrs before serving.–Would
this work for the pretzel rods?
It would absolutely keep Linda, I’ve made them as appetizers and let them out longer than that. Let me know how they go over, I’d love to know!
COuld I bring these with me in a sealed tight container and serve them the next day, or would you suggest keeping them in fridge?
Jennifer I’d keep them in the fridge and let them come to room temp before serving. Take them out of the fridge and hour before serving.
I remember making these as a kid in Kindergarten. My teacher would add chunks of pineapple between the bacon and the pretzel before baking. They were delicious!
Oh Laura what a fantastic idea, pineapple, bacon and pretzels, a fantastic combination!!
I’ve had these at a restaurant and have been dying to make them. Do you use the skinny, smallish pretzel sticks or the big rods? How many does this recipe make?
Linda I used the rods, not the little sticks. I used a 12 oz bag of pretzel Rods and used the whole bag. I can’t really tell you how many were in the bag though!
