Sloppy Joe Cosmo – the perfect fast, easy Sloppy Joe recipe that you can serve any time of the year. I decided to kick my favorite Sloppy Joe recipe up by putting it on a toasted roll and then adding cheese. I love messing around with sandwiches. They are so easy to adapt and add whatever you want to take them over the top. Have fun with it and enjoy this easy Sloppy Joe recipe, the Sloppy Joe Cosmo!
All it took to take an easy Sloppy Joe recipe from a good sandwich to a fantastic sandwich was cheese and an Italian roll. It was kind of like…grilled cheese meets Sloppy Joe and lived happily ever after. The inspiration for this concoction came while I was thinking about my hometown. In the town I live in, in Pennsylvania, we have hoagie and pizza shops everywhere. These shops have been there forever and are family-owned.
When I travel out of state, one of the first things that I notice was that there were no mom and pop hoagie shops! Everything was brand-named. When my brother, who lives in Virginia, comes home to visit, the first thing we do when he hits town is stop to get a hoagie. My out of state friends don’t understand what in the world the difference was between the hoagies we grew up with and what we could get from a big brand name…until they tasted one. Then they knew.
You can get a hoagie two ways in Sunbury, PA. You can get it like most cold hoagies, watch them make it, pay for it and go home to devour it. Or, you can get a hoagie toasted in the oven, it then turns into a COSMO. A Cosmo is a hoagie that is toasted in the oven until the meat and cheese are hot and the bun toasted slightly. Then, the lettuce, tomato, onion, seasons and mayo or oil are added.
The Cosmo was my inspiration for this delicious Sloppy Joe Cosmo. You can discover how amazing a Cosmo is while enjoying this easy Sloppy Joe recipe. Made with Italian Bread, Monterrey Jack Cheese, and my favorite easy Sloppy Joe recipe. This is one filling dinner sandwich. You could even add lettuce and tomato to this kicked up sandwich and make it even better.
Make this delicious sandwich with your favorite easy Sloppy Joe recipe or you can use my recipe. We love it. We start the Sloppy Joe recipe by heating a saute pan over medium heat. When the pan is heated add:
Sloppy Joe Recipe:
- one pound of hamburger
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (you can use any color you like)
- 1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 heaping Teaspoon yellow mustard
- 3/4 cup catsup
- dash of Worcestershire Sauce
- salt and pepper to taste
- Monterey Jack Cheese
- Italian bread Rolls
- butter, enough to spread on the rolls to broil them
Cook the hamburger, onion and peppers together until the hamburger is cooked through and the onion and pepper are soft. Drain the mixture.
Add the garlic powder, mustard and Worcestershire sauce to the pan. stir to combine. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Cook another 15 – 20 minutes, remove from the heat and set aside.
If you are using an Italian Bread loaf cut the loaf into serving size pieces to meet your families appetite. Spread butter on the top and bottom inside pieces of the bread. Broil in the oven or place the rolls butter side down on a griddle or skillet until crispy and browned. You can also use Italian Rolls if you don’t want to mess with cutting the bread loaf into pieces.
After the bread is toasted, lay slices of Monterey Jack Cheese on each side of the bun, broil long enough for the cheese to melt. Top the melted cheese with Sloppy Joe mix. Serve this delicious sandwich immediately while it’s hot and the cheese is melted. If you wanted to kick this up one more notch, add lettuce and tomato to the Cosmo before you serve it.
One of the hardest things about easy Sloppy Joe recipes is that it is great for adults, but can be tough for little ones! If you want to make Sloppy Joe Cosmos for little hands to hold, use your favorite hot dog buns.
Butter the inside of the buns and lay them buttered side down in a hot skillet to toast the bun. Lay the cheese on both sides of the hot dog bun and broil until the cheese is melted. Add the Sloppy Joe mix to the hot dog bun and serve.
Sloppy Joe Cosmo, an easy delicious dinner that can be made the day ahead if need be to make dinner a breeze. It would also be fantastic football food as well. Make the Sloppy Joe recipe, keep it warm in a crock pot on low until you’re ready to make the sandwiches. Sloppy Joe Cosmo, it’s what’s for dinner and it’s delicious, Enjoy!
