White Texas Sheet Cake is absolutely delicious and easy to make ,that’s not the only attributes it has, it’s moist and full of flavor and texture.
We were getting ready for a surprise birthday party at our house on Saturday. Along with everything that needs to be done to have 40 people at our house, I decided late in the morning that I would bake a cake, just to make sure there were enough desserts available. People were coming at 2:30, it was 11:00 when I got the urge to bake White Texas Sheet Cake. As you’ll see, the cake batter and frosting recipe come together very quickly. Which was exactly why I chose to make it, with very little time before family would be arriving, I needed quick. I didn’t just want quick, I wanted a great recipe as well. It did not disappoint, it was delicious. This is a recipe where you really need to have all the ingredients measured out for the cake batter before you get started. You’ll also want to have a rimmed cookie sheet greased and ready for the cake batter.
White Texas Sheet Cake Batter Ingredients:
- 1 cup butter cubed
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups white sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 Teaspoon salt
- 1 Teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 Teaspoon baking soda
- 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
The recipe starts with a saucepan. Place one cup cubed butter and one cup of water into a large saucepan over medium heat. As soon as the butter has melted and the mixture comes to a boil, take it off the heat.
Immediately stir in the flour, sugar, eggs, sour cream, salt, baking powder, vanilla extract and baking soda.
Stir the ingredients together until you have a smooth batter.
Place the batter into a greased rimmed cookie sheet and spread it to the edges of the pan. Bake the cake at 375 degrees for 18 – 22 minutes.
The cake will be golden brown on top. Your not going to let the cake cool down completely. It will only cool down long enough for you to make the frosting. Which we’re going to do now.
Once again, being prepared and having all the ingredients measured out ahead of time for the frosting recipe is going to be a big help.
White Texas Sheet Cake Frosting ingredients:
- 1/2 cup butter, cubed
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 1/2 cups confectioners sugar
- 1/2 Teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup chopped almonds
Using a large saucepan, heat the butter and milk together over medium heat until it comes to a boil. Remove it from the heat.
Immediately stir in the confectioners sugar and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth.
Stir in the almonds and spread the frosting over the cake, which should still be very warm.
Because you frost the cake while it’s still very warm (it might even be hot) you get this wonderful creaminess where the cake and the frosting meet and melt into each other. It delightful! This is a delicious, creamy, moist cake with a nice crunch to it from the almonds.
White Texas Sheet Cake, easy to make and perfect for feeding a crowd. An easy quick to put together cake recipe to make and bake anytime of the year you have something to celebrate.

I’ve made the chocolate Texas Sheet cake, and loved it. White cake is my favorite. I’ve bookmarked this recipe before, but you have given me the urge to make it. I looooooooooove almond extract, so will stick to that. Glad cutting back on the butter worked. How can one go wrong with sour cream? Yum!
I love this as an alternative to the Texas Brownie Cake. A suggestion might be to red and white frosting on it, maybe in a swirl?
I’ve had chocolate and peanut butter Texas sheet cakes but never white. Sounds good!
It was very good jenny! Thank you for stopping by!
I don’t like sour cream. Is the sour cream necessary? If not, what can you substitute for it?
You could substitute plain yogurt for the sour cream GrimFix
I have made several of your postings and this is on the top of the list Thank you foe sharing

Wonderful cake! I took this to work this week and everyone loved it, Thanks so much for the delicious recipe Bunny!
Your welcome Cindy!! Thank you for coming back to comment, I appreciate it!
I would add just a tad more milk to the frosting to loosen it up a bit if that happens again before putting it on the hot cake. Not too much you don’t want it real loose. I’ve never had the problem you’re describing.
Do you think this could be made in a 9×13
Pan? Any changes to make?
I haven’t make it in a 9×13 cake pan Sweetie. But I did find a chart on AllRecipes that might help you for future questions about pans.https://www.allrecipes.com/article/cake-pan-size-conversions/.
It should. I make regular Texas sheet cake both ways. You will have to adjust baking time though. I check with tooth pick until it comes out clean.
