The Best Buttermilk Pancakes EVER!
Fluffy, tall, soft homemade buttermilk pancakes, does it get any better than this! These are The Best Buttermilk Pancakes EVER! I’ve made these pancakes twice and both times my son said they were the best he’s ever eaten.
There are a couple of things you want to remember when making them. The dry ingredients and wet ingredients are mixed in separate bowls and not combined until you’re ready to make them.
Let your buttermilk , milk and eggs sit out to room temperature before mixing with the cooled melted butter. If they are cold ,the melted butter will solidify and you’ll have butter chunks.
When you’re ready to mix the dry and wet ingredients together, only mix until the ingredients are incorporated. The batter will be lumpy, you want it that way.
I made my pancakes in a large cast iron skillet. I heated the skillet, before I made the pancakes I sprinkled water droplets in the pan , they danced and sizzled around the skillet and evaporated, it was time to make the cakes. I used my 1/2 cup measuring cup to measure the batter out. This gave me nice big pancakes.
While they are cooking, don’t turn the pancakes until you see little holes appearing on the tops of the cakes, check the bottom for a deep golden brown color then flip the cakes. You’re going to love these fluffy delicious BEST EVER Buttermilk Pancakes! Enjoy!
Best Buttermilk Pancakes Ever
Servings: 12
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons white sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups buttermilk - room temperature
- 1/2 cup milk - room temperature
- 3 eggs - room temperature
- 1/3 cup butter melted
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. In a separate bowl, beat together your room temperature buttermilk, milk, eggs and melted butter. Keep the two mixtures separate until you are ready to cook.
- Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. You can flick water across the surface and if it beads up and sizzles, it's ready!
- Pour the wet mixture into the dry mixture, using a wooden spoon or fork to blend. Stir until it's just blended together. Do not over stir! Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/2 cup for each pancake. Brown on both sides and serve hot

Thank you so much Heidy, they were delicious!
These look amazing! So fluffy! Love it!
Fixed these this morning. AWSOME, but next time I will cut the recipe in half. I made enough to feed the US Army. The birds are going to enjoy the rest, smothered in peanut butter and as my husband had a fit “You aren’t feeding them my pecans, are You”?
:)))
Freeze the leftover pancakes Joan and reheat in the microwave when you need them!

A truly “scrumptious” pancake recipe!
Thank you Gail!
Can I make these into waffles with the same recipe?? I wouldn’t see why not right?
I don’t make a whole lot of waffles Sarah, You could try it, make one waffle to see how it goes, if not make pancakes with the rest of the batter.
I made the whole batch into waffles with my waffle maker. Put them between parchment paper and froze them:). Then my boys can just pop them in the toaster.
You’re a wonderful Mama sweetie! They get homemade instead of prepackaged. You’re spoiling your boys, they’ll be happy to find a woman to marry as thoughtful as you are. You take good care of them!
This recipe is truly amazing. Recipe makes a very large batch. I made these and my husband and I reheated two days later. Just as good the first day.
You can freeze pancakes after you make them to Denice. Thank you for taking the time to come back and comment Denice, I appreciate it.
Excellent recipe. They are so light and fluffy! I used 1/3 cup and it made 23 large pancakes. We froze the leftovers.
