Crock Pot Apple Pudding Cake
I am absolutely amazed that I made this apple pudding cake in the crock pot. Good Grief this is good! Where do I start… Warm apples topped with cinnamon, a fluffy cake with a thick pudding flavoured with orange; this is absolutely one of the best recipes for apple crock pot cake EVER!. The batter for the cake goes on the bottom of the crock pot and actually rises up to make a soft, fluffy cake. The pudding portion appears when you scoop out the cake and apples.
It has a slight citrus flavour from the orange juice that pairs so well with the apples. Just imagine… warm apples, cinnamon, and an orange flavour altogether. It’s enough to make you swoon. You could pair this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and make it insanely luscious. Let’s gather the ingredients and make this crock pot cake recipe together.

Crock Pot Apple Pudding Cake
Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2/3 cup plus 1/4 cup sugar divided
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup butter cold
- 1 cup milk
- 4 apples I used Gala Apples, peeled and diced
- 1 1/2 cups orange juice
- 1/2 cup honey or light brown sugar
- 2 Tablespoons butter melted
- 1 Teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine the flour,2/3 cup sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Cut the butter into the mixture until you have coarse crumbs.
- Stir the milk into the crumbs just until moistened.
- Grease the bottom and sides of a 4 or 5 qt crock pot. Spoon the batter into the bottom of the crock pot and spread out evenly. Place the diced apples over the batter evenly.
- In a medium size bowl, whisk together the orange juice, honey, melted butter , remaining sugar and cinnamon. Pour over the apples.
- Place a clean kitchen towel over the opening of the crock pot, place the lid on. This keeps condensation from the lid from going into the crock pot. Set the crock pot on high and cook 2 to 3 hours until apples are tender.
- Serve warm.

mhm I can smell all the wonderful flavors of your crockpot cake. I am really considering getting a crockpot now too because of such comforting food. I would love a bite right now!
Oh you’d love it Helene, I love my crockpot!
I’ve never heard of apple pudding cake! I do love a good slow cooker recipe, though, so I might need to give it a try!
You’ll love it Abby!
Ooh I have always wanted to try making a cake in the slow cooker, will have to try this one out, it looks so gooey and delicious!
Oh yes Donna it’s delicious, you’ll love it!
These sound amazing! My hubby isn’t too fond of cinnamon so will leaving it out altogether take away from this or is there something I can replace it with?
Lois this doesn’t have an over baring cinnamon flavor to it. You could cut the cinnamon in half or omit it.
I am excited about this recipe cos it does not have any eggs in it! I will probably make this for my friend’s christmas party.
Wonderful Lois! Come back and let me know what you thought of the recipe!
First time making a cake in the crock pot. Everyone enjoyed. Actually appreciate the video too. Thank you!
Your welcome Sue! Thank you for coming back to comment, I appreciate you!
I must have a small crockpot…it’s so old I don’t even know what size it is, but I felt like I had so much batter I layered batter and apple so apples wound up on top. And I didn’t have oj but I had a small can of mandarin oranges so I improvised. Also I didn’t need the whole cup of milk, I added so it was ‘just moist’ so only used 1/2 cup. Will see how it comes out in about 2-3 hours. Probably 2 because I know my pot runs hot.
Let me know what happens Kim, with all your adaptions you just made a whole new recipe LOL!
Oh how I LOVE apples and cinnamon.

Thank you.
This looks sooo amazing!!! Could this be made in a 6.5 quart slow cooker with the same amount of ingredients and cooking time?
You could Evelyn, but I’d watch the time it’s in the crock pot. Bigger crockpot, I would assume the cooking time would be less.
Just signed up for your recipes after seeing the crock pot apple pudding, cant wait to try it. Winter here in New Zealand but do have some Granny Smith Apples in the fridge.. cheers Colleen
Thank you!
What are settings and timings if it is baked in an oven
Matthew I have never made it in the oven, just the crock pot. If I had to guess, I would say 350 degrees. TIME wise, I would start out with half an hour and test with a tooth pick for doneness and continue baking for about 15 minutes until the apples are tender.
Made this for the first time tonight and it is amazing!!! I followed it the exact way you said and it’s perfect!
Thank you Katrina
Wow, this is a keeper!!! It’s easy and very impressive (the smell and the taste). I made a few little changes but everyone in our office really enjoyed this recipe!
Changes I made: I used 5 diced Gala apples instead of 4. I used 1 1/2 c. apple juice, with the addition of a fresh squeezed small orange and a splash of vanilla. lastly I couldn’t decide between the honey or the brown sugar (I love the depth brown sugar adds, but didn’t want it to be too sweet) so I used 1/4c of each. Severed with French Vanilla ice cream and YUMMM!!!.
Thank you so much for sharing this cake with us — it sure hit the spot and is so comforting and good!
Wonderful Dnaielle! We loved it too! And how sweet of you to make it for your co workers!
Never mind about my earlier question, I see where it serves 10 so no need to try to double it even in a 6 quart crockpot
Enjoy Jo!
this is a delicious pudding cake, I would strongly recommend it. I added a little more milk than it called for because the batter seemed to thick
Thank you Jacquie
I haven’t tried this recipe yet, but can it be cut in half? There’s just two of us.
Yes 🙂
If you can make this Delicious cake in a crock pot, Can you make other cake
In a crock pot.
Thank you for this delicious recipe! I am gluten intolerant so I thought I’d share my simple modification. I used an organic, gluten free flour blend, plus 1/2 cup old fashion rolled oats. In addition, just for kicks and giggles, I added 1/2 tsp cardamom powder. The result was a perfect, silky pudding with caramelized, apple goodness all around the edges.
