Cream Cheese Apple Cake
This delicious cake is made moist by adding cream cheese to the batter. It’s filled with the wonderful flavor of apples, cinnamon, brown sugar and pecans. Oh my gosh I couldn’t believe how good it was!
The cake is brimming with chopped apples that sit in a cake batter made with butter and cream cheese. The cake is very tender, moist and delicious! I used 3 large Cameo Apples which are crisp and firm. It may seem like 3 large apples is to many but please use all of them! You’ll love it!
The cinnamon, brown sugar and pecan topping is perfect for the cake! It adds sweetness and crunch ,it compliments the apples beautifully. I tossed the apples in lemon juice after I chopped them for two reasons.
First it keeps the apples from turning brown while you make the batter and two…lemon adds a wonderful flavor to apples just like it does to blueberries and other fruit. This is an outstanding cake that you can enjoy all year round, I hope you love it as much as we did! Enjoy!

Great recipe! I think it is possible to use less sugar…for those not into too sweet….other than that very good!
Thank you Veronica
I can’t keep it on my shelf!! I make it, it’s gone…yes gone. Delicious easy and sooooooo good warm or cold. Since the temps are going colder now here in Massachusetts, my baking and cooking comes inside. I am making this recipe right now and the house smells amazing. I’m also making my dog’s cookies but thats another story…lol.
Thank you Bunny for sharing this deliciousness with the world. I am going to see your others this afternoon because if this is such a good tasting cake, I can only imagine what the others are like.
To ANYONE reading this, I am a baker, old school, and a real person…no fake comment here. Try this, read the whole recipe first then get baking. Oh, and share it with your neighbors. I did and they were very happy indeed. Sometimes, what you give away comes back 10 fold. Happy cooking and sharing!!!!
Thank you Miriam!
Delicious!!!
Made this I love it and so does my friends
Hi I just wanted to tell you: you’re my go-to website for cake recipes. This one, the chocolate cinnamon coffee cake, the pineapple and carrot cakes — I make them all and I have 4 teenagers who gobble them up like it’s their job. Which I guess…it is! 🙂 I’ve gotten myself into a situation where if I don’t have a cake baked after school they are pretty disappointed! I’m so lucky that I get to bake cakes for the people I love, but I’m not good at making up recipes, and I appreciate that yours are simple to make and don’t require lots of cake pans, double broilers, and the like.
thank you!
If I could give this ten stars I would. I come from a family of many generations of fantastic bakers (Hungarian & Russian) and I am known for my baked goods. Every Monday I brought in something delicious for the entire office. Now that I’m retired I don’t bake for them as much. I wanted to make something new with apples and cream cheese. This cake is phenomenal!
I’m embarrassed to say I had three pieces already. Bunny thank you so much for this excellent recipe. I can’t wait to share it with my sister and brother who are also great bakers.
Ruth
Absolutely delicious. I didn’t change any of the ingredients apart from nuts on the top (I didn’t have any!) great to eat on its own but I think it would be lovely as a pudding with cream or custard. You don’t taste the cream cheese at all but it really enhances this cake and makes it nice and moist,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience Jan! I am glad that the cream cheese apple cake turned out delicious!
This cake is a new family favorite! I used red delicious apples. I didn’t realize I only had one teaspoon of cinnamon left in the cupboard but it was still delicious. The crunchy top is the best part! I added Hershey’s caramel syrup to my second piece and it was fantastic.
That’s amazing, glad it worked out!
Yummy cake. My husband made it for my bday last month. I currently have one in the oven now. I used fiji apples this time. This cake is beyond delicious. My brother asked for the recipe since he ate 4 slices for my bday.
Oh Lynette, I am so happy to hear that! The cream cheese apple cake is definitely a favorite for birthdays that’s for sure!
I doubled the recipe for the topping and added nutmeg. Also, I used older Fuji apples and chopped them finely…I used cake flour too. The result is a fluffier and lighter cake that mixes better with the cream cheese for an excellent texture!
I made this last night and it was so good. Served warm with vanilla ice cream. But, the next morning I took a piece out of refrigerator and had with my coffee. It was even better cold!!!!! Such an easy and delicious recipe. Thank you!
Don’t you just love that, good and then “gooder”! Thank you for taking the time to comment Kathy, I appreciate you!
I made this recipe with gluten free flour and substituted the sugar for honey and it turned out great. The cream cheese keeps it nice and moist.
NICE Krissy!! Thank you for coming back and telling us your changes. It’ll be so helpful for someone else who might wonder if they can make it with gluten free flour. I appreciate you!
Since I bake for myself, I had to do some math to make a mini version of this….. It came out perfect!! Will be making this more often 🙂
So glad to hear that it went well! I love this apple cake because it’s great for any time of year!
This is my “go to” for show off apple cake! NEVER disappoints!!!
So glad!! Apple cake is one of the best things to show off, isn’t it?!
This is absolutely a WONDERFUL cake!! My family went crazy for it, and my son in law said it is now in his top 2 favorite desserts of all time!! Our daughter and son in law have 5 apple trees on their new hobby farm, which is wonderful because we all love apples. With that in mind, I increased the apples in your wonderful recipe to 4 cups, and rounded up your topping to 1 cup of brown sugar and we used sliced almonds. It was absolute perfection!! To serve I topped each piece with fresh whipped cream and a drizzle of homemade caramel sauce. This recipe has now been added to our family forever recipes!! Thank you for such a lovely recipe!!
Oh wow, Cathy! That makes me so happy how much you and your family enjoyed the cream cheese apple cake! I love that they have apple trees too, how fitting!
So delicious. My husband and I ate almost the entire cake as soon as it came out of the oven. I had to make another one the next day, I didn’t have any apples left so I used a large can of well drained pineapple. Again absolutely fantastic! The apple was my favorite though. Will try it with peaches next. Thank you for such a wonderful recipe.
Wow Ruth! I love that you loved it so much that you made a second!! Doing the cream cheese cake with peaches sounds fantastic 🙂
I made this cake for my husband to take into work. After reading all the comments these are the things I changed. After chopping the apples and putting the lemon juice on them I also added 1 tablespoon of Apple Pit Spice to the apples and tossed until they were well coated. I also added 1 1/2 cups of Carmel Bits to the batter. Like others I also doubled the topping and used Slivered Almonds. I also made a powdered sugar glaze that I also added Apple Pie Spic to and drizzled over the top. Winner! Thanks for a great recipe.
I made this cake for my husband to take into work. It was a hit! I did make some changes and additions. After chopping the apple and putting the lemon juice on them I tossed them with a tablespoon of Apple Pie Spice. I also added 1 1/2 cups of Carmel Bits to the cake batter. After reading the reviews, like others I doubled the topping and used Slivered Almonds rather than Pecans because that is what I had on hand. After the cake was cooled I made a glaze out of Powdered Sugar and a little milk and also added Apple Pie Spice to the glaze. My husband said everyone loved this cake. Thanks so much for sharing!
So glad the cream cheese apple cake turned out well- thanks for letting me know! Have a blessed day.
Totally Yummy! I reduced the sugar and cream cheese slightly. Still incredibly moist, apple-y and delicious.
Perfection!!
