Kentucky Butter Cake

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 Teaspoon salt
  • 1 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup butter .softened
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 Teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 eggs room temperature

Butter Sauce

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 Tablespoons water
  • 2 Teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 Teaspoon cinnamon ( optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour a bundt pan.
In the bowl of an electric stand mixer, beat the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating till well incorporated after each addition. Add the vanilla.
In a large bowl combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Whisk to combine. Add the flour mixture alternately with the buttermilk, only beating until just incorporated with each addition. It's important to not over mix the cake batter. Pour the batter into the prepared bundt pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 60 minutes or until test done with a tooth pick.
Place the baked cake on a wire rack. Poke holes in the bottom of the still hot cake. Using a bamboo chop stick or something similar in size will give you holes big enough to spoon the butter sauce into. Let the cake cool completely down before flipping onto a serving plate. You can also pour half the butter syrup into the wholes and brush the rest over the outside of the cake after it comes out of the pan.
