1. Combine 1 cup of flour and the yeast in a large bowl. Stir to combine.
2. Place the milk, sugar, butter and salt in a medium saucepan. Using low heat, stir and warm the mixture just until the butter has melted, add to dry ingredients. Stir to combine. Add the egg and almond butter. With a mixer on low speed, mix for 1 minute, turn the mixer to high and beat 3 minutes.
3.Stirring by hand, mix in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.
4. Grease a 9 inch round baking pan, Place the dough into the pan, gently pat the dough out to the edges of the pan evenly. Sprinkle with sugar and almonds, cover and let rise until almost double. About 1 hour. Dot with butter, bake at 375 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on a wire rack. Serve warm or cold.
