Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk, room temperature
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 Teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 Teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 inch baking pan with high sides.
Combine the softened cream cheese, room temperature butter and 3/4 cup white sugar in a large bowl. Beat the ingredients together until they are light and fluffy. Stir the room temperature milk, eggs and vanilla into the batter.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.  Add the sifted ingredients to the batter and beat with an electric mixer until the batter is smooth.
Spread HALF the batter into your prepared greased and floured high sided baking pan. The batter is very thick. It works best to put little blobs of batter across the pan and then spread them with a knife.
Spread the sliced strawberries evenly over cake batter. Drop remaining batter with a spoon over the berries and smooth it out with a knife to cover them. Mix the brown sugar and nuts together in a small bowl., sprinkle evenly over cake. Bake 40 minutes.  Remove the cake from the oven to a wire rack, cool completely or serve warm.
